About Autism Promise

Dean Boyce is an autistic author, advocate and public speaker from North Carolina, diagnosed with Autism Level 1 during middle school.

Dean’s journey to founding Autism Promise began not in a classroom or a boardroom, but in the everyday moments where ableism quietly — and sometimes loudly — shapes the lives of autistic people. Despite excelling in his career, rising to a management position and training multiple high-performing coworkers, Dean was ultimately forced out of his job because of his autism. Those experiences, combined with similar encounters in his church and community, lit a fire in him that would become Autism Promise.

The name says it all. Autism Promise is a promise — to educate others about the full autism spectrum, to give autistic people a voice, and to show the world that autism is not a limitation. Through his book Autistic Dean: A Unique Perspective, this website of autism knowledge, and his work as a public speaker, Dean is keeping that promise one reader and one audience at a time.

His message is simple but urgent: understand what an autistic person might be going through, and know that with the right support, awareness and acceptance, autistic people can and do rise above.

Autistic Dean: A Unique Perspective is based on his experiences while the autism promise website explains the entire autism spectrum and its history
